Just about every manufacturer will buy examples of their competitors' cars for the purpose of examining how they build their cars and the parts they used.

Whereas some manufacturers will make on-going improvements to their cars, other manufacturers will not bother. Low and behold, it's no surprise how some manufacturers perpetuate their own mediocrity.

From left to right: 1964 Chevelle, 1964 Comet, 1964 Rambler Classic, 1964 Dodge Dart, the last one is unknown.

I want to see the monster rod they are creating from all those different car's parts.

This photo comes from the American Motors '1965 X-RAY' brochure that "Compares all the popular American-built cars with the Sensible Spectaculars"

I think you may be correct, I was thinking that the car to the right of the Comet was a Rambler American but it looks like there may be a trim line in front fender that matches the Classic. And I can't tell the 5th car either. It may be a Nova.

It looks like a real mechanic got into the picture on the left there. The guy is asking, "what is this again"?'.
