Such beautiful simplicity . I love the way the willow tree has been painted and the way the lanterns light up in the mist is such an original idea.

Isn't this a charmer? Somehow Japanese woodblock prints of the 19th and early 20th centuries are exquisitely able to capture fleeting moments like this one - of light, of weather - better than anyone else.

Oh , I never realised these were woodblock prints ...you're right , they are exquisite . I've been recently doing some research into British wood engraving during the 1900-1930 period , especially Gwendolen Raverat , who was Charles Darwin's grand-daughter .
