Auto focus. :-) Actually, I used a mirror so that I could see the screen which was a big help for framing the shot. Also, even though I used a flash (helps hide the reflection of the camera), I had my eye well lit so that the iris was as small as I could get it. It definitely was not comfortable.
Oh, how I suffer for my art... :-)

That would be crazy! Hmm... they already can insert clear lenses under your cornea. Seems like a only a matter of time before translucent or opaque things are inserted. As long as they don't obstruct your pupil you're okay, right?

eep... that sounds just creepy. Colored contacts are bad enough as it is. I'll prefer to keep this to photoshop effects, thanks. Neat, though... I noticed the heart before seeing the notes, though I hadn't noticed the I and the U. :-)

I guess maybe I hadn't made that clear. This is indeed a digitally edited photo. I do not naturally have a heart shape on my iris.
