Family in Honduras 09

Sambo Creek, Honduras Feb. 2011

During my several short visits to Honduras, I have witnessed enough sad stories...

Then, all of sudden, I saw a happy mother holding a happy baby. I hoped that all the sad stories I heard there were only rumors and not true. I thanked this mother and baby to give me a courage to continue my trip in this beautiful country...

Triunfo, Honduras Feb. 2011

In Honduras, they say, six or seven out of every 10 children have only one parent (mostly mother) or no parents at all. Fathers abandon their children and wives (or girlfriends), and in most cases, fathers will never send any financial supports for children's mothers...

What is waiting after this? It is poverty... Young children will soon lose their beautiful smiles, while fighting against poverty which they were forced into since their birth...

Here, in a small indigenous Garifuna village, a divorce rate and a poverty rate are higher than the rest of Honduras, they say. Those shining eyes of the Garifuna kids I captured on my photos will soon stop shining, I am afraid...

Children in Honduras 38

La Esperanza, Honduras Oct. 2010

In Honduras, big sisters and big brothers take care of their little siblings. It makes me feel so warm. What else is more important? I see sisters (or brothers) like this only in a movie describing 1950's Japan. Today, the children in Japan or USA are so wealthy but... cold. I want to scream at them, "Stop using computers, and go help your little sisters and brothers!" I must travel all the way to Honduras to meet warm children... Warm and real children...
