Barclay's Russian Imperial Stout, advert for Barclay, Perkins, brewers, London - 1936

The famous Imperial Russian Stout that was brewed by Barclay, Perkins in London for many a year - famous because of its initial strength and the fact that it was intended to 'lay down' as you would a good wine. Barclay's, based in Southwark, London, had acquired the beer from Thrales brewery, and in time when Barclay's merged with Courage their name was added to the title - I have a few bottles of the later version in my 'cellar'. I'm uncertain if it is still available now that Courage has gone - taking so many smaller breweries with it.
