Snake bowl...
... a traditional pattern, made by a modern day Native American potter/artist, Caroleen Sanders. The bowl is on display at the North Carolina Pottery Center, in the museum section, next to old pots from the pre-colonial times. The museum gives a historical tour of pottery in the Seagrove area, but also has display cases for contemporary work, hosts exhibitions and offers classes for both adults and the local school children.

Seagrove, NC, could probably be called the Pottery Capitol. There are over 100 pottery studios there.... Magnolia Place and Jugtown are our favorites. Seagrove is located in an area rich in clay well suited for pottery, and potterymaking can be traced back to the time before colonization. Beautiful pots were, and still are, made by Native American crafters and artists.

I just love all the trouble you go to when you make your photo descriptions!!! This is wonderful!
Beautiful photo - I'm not crazy about the snake, but that's just me! Pay me no mind. EVERYTHING can't be a butterfly :) LOL

Claire - I'm glad to know you bother to read the stuff! I like to read what other folks have to say about their photos, so I'm thrilled when I find something to read. Like the links, too. Make me think, I often learn something - it's a treat. And that's what inspired me to put a little bit of work into the descriptions - at least sometimes. (Some of it is "cut and paste," so that helps a bit.)
