El Museo Guggenheim de arte contemporáneo, situado en Bilbao - Pais
Vasco, es uno de los cinco museos de la Fundación Solomon R.
Guggenheim. Lo diseñó el arquitecto canadiense Frank O. Gehry. Fue
inaugurado el 18 de octubre de 1997 por el Rey Juan Carlos I de
España.
La característica más llamativa del museo es el innovador edificio en
el que se emplaza, constituido por formas curvilíneas y retorcidas,
recubiertas de piedra caliza, cortinas de cristal y planchas de
titanio. Cuenta con una superficie total de 24.000 m², de los cuales
11.000 m² están reservado para las exposiciones, distribuidos en 19
galerías. Se ubica a orillas de la ría de Bilbao, en una zona
denominada Abandoibarra, junto al puente Príncipes de España (puente
de La Salve), que resulta rodeado por una torre hueca. El edificio
recibió múltiples críticas favorables, como la del arquitecto
estadounidense Philip Johnson, quien lo calificó como «el edificio más
grande de nuestros tiempos»
Es también el primer museo de España en contar con una aplicación para
iPhone, que permite planificar la visita, consultar la programación,
las actividades y descargarse más de 300 imágenes, vídeos y audios.

The Guggenheim Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Bilbao - Basque
Country, is one of the five museums of the Solomon R. Foundation
Guggenheim. Was designed by Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry. It was
inaugurated on October 18, 1997 by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
The most striking feature is the innovative museum building in which
it is located, consisting of curved and twisted shapes, covered with
limestone, glass curtains and sheets of titanium. It has a total area
of 24,000 m², of which 11,000 m² are reserved for exhibitions in 19
galleries. Located on the banks of the estuary of Bilbao, in an area
called Abandoibarra, next to Princes Bridge of Spain (La Salve
bridge), which is surrounded by a hollow tower. The building received
many favorable reviews, such as the American architect Philip Johnson,
who called him "the greatest building of our time"
It is also the first museum in Spain to have an iPhone application
that allows you to plan the visit, check out the program, activities
and downloaded over 300 images, videos and audios.
