mysterious padlock

first half of 2009, there's a lot of mysterious things happend, Mr. Roh Moh-yun former president of korea jumped to his death, Kung-Fu star David Carridine found hanged in thailand and king of pop Michael Jackson found dead due to heart attack. Like those mysterious happenings, this padlock seems pretty mysterious too, who hold the key for this to be unlocked???

Good subject and bang-on exposure, but for all the good things with this image, the background, albeit out of focus, is still distracting given the lines that detract from the subject. You may try cropping this into being a vertical image and see if you like it better.

thanks for the comment t.coyner. actually I really want to make the background blurry, meaning intentionally blurry but the problem is the background is a bit bright so the bokeh effect is not that visible making the background a bit distracting to the subject...

Is it locking something in, or keeping someone out?

I like it. You shouldn't have much trouble blowing out the background focus, though, even if it is bright. what was your aperture here? it would actually be a really striking image with the lock on the left if you could get the background softer... i don't know anything about the 40-150 lens but with a focal length like that I'm assuming it doesn't have a very large aperture?

PS - please take a look at the posting rules for the photo club. Thank you

I wanted to control the blurring effect in the backgroud because 40-150 lens make the backgroud really blurred, actually in this image I even reduce the EV to -3 but still it is a bit distracting.

about the posting rules, I do made two consecutives comments after I've uploaded my picture. I think thats already fine right?

That is one old lock. I hope the key is in better shape!

The texture is really nice, on the chains and the metal. SO sharp, too. Good job!

thanks Cami in Virginia I do appreciate your comment

on the posting rules - you make comments about the two photos that come before yours, not after

your exposure compensation (EV) doesnt do anything to the bokeh, are you talking about the brightness?

    9. digital boteman (36 months ago | reply)

yeah I'm talking about the brightness, I knew exposure will not help in bokeh but I wanted the background a bit recognizable not a super bokeh but the wall is really bright so I thought decreasing the EV will help.

I'm fine with the wall as it is... it doesn't distract my eyes. The texture of the lock and chains is strong enough against the background. Nice colour in the rust.
