Petals & Dew

Petals & Dew

This is the first photo I've taken in awhile with my Nikon. I've not even been hauling it around everywhere in some time. Last weekend, I was in West Virginia, and I wound up using my wife's Nikon Coolpix S9100 the whole time. As I passed this Charisma Rose in front of the house this morning, I noticed it had some pretty blooms with a bit of dew still left on them, so I decided to take a few shots. I did use the photographer's cheat (spray bottle) to give the petals a bit more water.

Feeling Froggy

Feeling Froggy

EXPLORE: 5/9/12 #129

I was getting ready to leave the other morning when my wife noticed this little frog sitting in the flower bed in front of our porch. I know it's not exactly on the same level as it was, but the grass was wet and I didn't really want to lay down on the ground to make the shot. Yeah, I know...I'm lazy...!!

Short Timer

Short Timer

This is the bridge that spans the Powell River along Longleaf Road near Rose Hill, Va. here in Lee County. It is scheduled to be replaced sometime in the near future. I'm not sure how old the bridge is, although it has been around for as long as I can remember. My Dad said when he was young, some boys burned the wooden bottom out of it one Halloween. (It may have been just a small section). It is one of those one-lane bridges that rattles and shakes the whole length as you drive over it. If I remember correctly, the Flood of 1977 (largest on record for this area) brought the Powell River over the floor of the bridge. It will be sad to see it go, for it has been a landmark for the area I grew up in.

Henry

Henry

I took this photo this morning while at my mom's house. This peacock just came there, and apparently enjoys the local atmosphere considering he's been there for some time now. Mom calls him "Henry" and talks to him like a baby. He enjoys sitting up on her old clothesline poles, as well as staying in her barns. He also like partaking of the food Mom puts out for him, as well as the dog food at my brother's place across the road. I've not been able to photograph him displaying his feathers yet, but Mom says he's beautiful.
