There is a similarly built staircase (no nails or obvious support) at the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, NM. Though the one here is a very different style, it is quite a statement to the craft of carpentry to build such structures! Well done photo as well!

Thanks for the comments - I'm delighted! I would have liked to get closer and take it from another angle but it's cordoned off - the castle is a museum. If ever you go to Moravia (close to the Austrian border) do not miss it. All the staircases are handcrafted, as well as the coffered ceilings.

Made before the days of vacuum cleaners and Swiffers, kiki! ;-D In fact the whole castle is lined with polished wood - walls, ceilings, stairs. Pity the servants!
