On the verge of the vulgar

Stunning, isn’t it? If you want to be seen this is the right necklace for you. But you need to wear your hair short or to have a pony-tail. Otherwise the spirals and the big plates will not be visible. They are meant to decorate your neck. The beautiful spirals are the main decorative element during the whole Bronze Age. They have been interpreted in many ways by archaeologists. For some they represent the eternal cycle of life and death, for others they symbolize the snake; an animal that was perceived as an earthly incarnation of the underworld.

The Bronze Age woman had a taste for big bulbous shapes and wavy-line decoration that almost can be compared to the baroque style. This is evident especially during the late Bronze Age. This collar can be dated to 900-700 BC and it is found in Landa, Halland.
