Textpattern Admin theme
Inspired by Jeremy Koempels recent TXP admin fiddlings, and the fact that I'm setting up another Textpattern based site for a client. I love the clean TXP admin look, but the tabs have never been my taste, and I like to customise it per client.
I did try and make it a CSS only theme, but there were a couple of things I couldn't accomplish with the css skin alone. So, seeing as I had to fiddle with the php files, I added the link to the site bascampy stylee, and removed the 'view site' tab (which never made sense to me, as you don't view the site in an admin tab). This pulls in your settings for Site Name and Site URL.
The layout is also fluid now. Which you may hate! It breaks on resize too.
Sadly, if you use the hpw_admincss to apply the custom css, for some reason, it doesn't theme the plugins tab. It does if you add the css to the textpattern.css file though.
So, here are the files if you want to download it. Feel free to alter, improve, grill, fry etc.
(Requires TXP 4.05)

@colly - it does, the header colour and tab style is similar. It also looks like Basecamp (or at least my basecamp).

Nice to see someone still loving textpattern. Mind you I'm awaiting the next release with a js library so I can get my event manager plugin updated to a much nicer version.

Jon: Your Admin theme looks better than my own effort (that I've been tweaking now and then in my spare time)...
I especially like what you've done with the site link at the top - nice touch.
You might be interested in my attempt as well....(possibly/possibly not?!)....see here: www.flickr.com/photos/mattrobin/992995496/

Hot!!! Great job, Mr. H. Reminds me of Symphony just a little bit.
I was having a little trouble with the input widths on the categories page and a few others. Here's how I fixed it:
#event_form table#edit,
#event_form table#list,
#event_form input#title,
#event_form textarea,
#event_article table#edit,
#event_article table#list,
#event_article input#title,
#event_article textarea,
#event_page table#edit,
#event_page table#list,
#event_page input#title,
#event_page textarea {
width: 100% !important;
}
input.edit {
width: 200px !important;
}
Otherwise everything else it sweet!

Jon, Your kinda spesh at this skinning malarkey aren't you?
This is very nice, thanks :)

this is really beautiful! thanks a lot. :)
just one thing:
i had the problem that the pagetop table didn't span the whole width, so I added a width:100% in line 25 of your admin.css.
If anybody has the same problem, this should fix it.
table#pagetop {
background: #000 url(txp_img/bkgd.gif) repeat-x left bottom !important;
width:100%;
}

Jon, Just a quick question, hoping you can help.
Is there anyway with CSS that you can shrink the textboxes where you type new articles / edit pages/css/forms etc?
I've got a laptop with a wide screen. the biggest resolution it'll go is 1220x880 or something similar. When i use textpattern, i generally need to scroll down to save / edit pages.
Is there away to shrink that textbox so the submit / save buttons are shown on the screen without the need to scroll?
Hope you can help :)

Hey Jon,
I like your site and now I like your flickr stream :D
question tho, I've been using camino for a while now, and I could never figure out how to make my bookmark bar all iconless and sleek like yours. how did you do it ?

I installed and love this theme, but I use Windows at work (I'm a software developer, no choice) and the fluid textboxes on the left sidebar in the write tab get really long and make the middle textboxes all squished up. :(
Otherwise I love this theme.

Excellent work!
dujnoyl (57 months ago | reply)
This is so great, thank you sir! :)
One minor fix, when you select the plugins menu (Admin > Plugins), the new admin.css file isn't linked so you get the old interface (at least it wasn't for me).
For those looking for an easy fix it just add the following code in the head of txplib_head.php (textpattern > lib > txplib_head.php):
style type="text/css">
@import url("css.php?n=admin");
/style
(Of course open and close the style tag properly).
Thanks again, this made things easier to use not to mention better looking. You are the man!
Jon Hicks (57 months ago | reply)
Yeah, this is a plugin problem - in the end I just added the new css to the textpattern.css file, but thanks for your solution!
Marko Mihelcic (57 months ago | reply)
@dujnoyl - yeah I noticed this also. tnx.
Btw. it also changes the main login page so that's a neat tip.

On line 168 of lib/txplib_head.php you should change the short php tags '<?' to full ones '<?php' for better compatibility.
Some configs (like the entropy.ch PHP5 install on my MBP) don't support short php tags any more.
@dujnoyl - it's quite deliberate that plugins can't style the plugins page. Saves a badly written plugin screwing things up and leaving you without the ability to remove it, and also prevents a malicious plugin from hiding itself.
