Initial Drawings for Tyler's Quilt. The bottom design is the final
and has marks on it indicating the piecing of the quilt top.
My cousin Sarah has a darling 4 year old son Tyler (and another son who is cute and 2ish). I spend a lot of time with them and wanted to make a quilt for Tyler that encompassed his love of cars and red. I wanted the quilt to be simple so that it wouldn't take an extensive amount of time (he knew I was making him something and wanted to know when it would be done), I also wanted it to be able to grow with him. So I decided that I would use mainly solids in this case Kona Tomato and a natural linen I purchased from Joann's. I had bought the Echino cars just for him and included some Amy Butler Full moon dots and fussy cut Heather Ross bits. I kept the back as simple as the front and quilted it in straight lines using masking tape as a guide. He is very happy to have his quilt, finally and I think it will last him many years. The final measurements are 54.5"x61" washed.
Think you've seen Tyler before? He (and his mom) has helped to hold up the Millenium Park Picnic Quilt and his embroidery is featured on a fabric basket in my photostream.
