Lakota Canyon Golf Course, Newcastle Co.
Lakota Canyon Golf Course in Newcastle Colorado is a wonderful new Jim Engh golf course thats sits just off Interstate 70 about 15 miles east of Rifle Colorado or 75 miles east of the Utah border.. This is truly a great golf course set in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains on the west slope.. Jim Engh is one of the brightess stars of the new crop of golf course architects in north america. The course wanders up the sides of the foothills, through canyons and gullies, with a number of forced carries across wastelands or water.. The course has a number of high elevated tees that offer fabulous views of the surrounding mountains and the elevations will give the ball a few extra yards. There are a number of very interesting golf courses in this area, including Rifle Creek, Battlement Mesa, Redlands Mesa (another wonderful Jim Engh course), and Devil's Thumb at Delta Colorado, about 20 minutes south of Grand Junction.. There are few areas that offer better "shoulder season" golf (thats May through July) or Sept through the middle of October). Lakota Canyon Ranch is kept in great condition throughout the season and their rates are very competitive with courses in the area that cost considerably more.. An exciting and challenging golf experience for any level of golfer..
