My work on the wall for today's class

My work on the wall for today's class by Sven Carlsson.
We've got a week and a day until we have to submit two pages of day and night renderings. Our sponsor is OSRAM, an automotive lighting company, so we will accentuate the head and tail lights. The rear end treatment I'm using is the bottom left sketch of the bunch. I'm going to revise the front bumper for a simpler shape, but otherwise it's all there. Updates will come next week when my renderings are done :)

Nice work. I like that bottom middle sketch with what appears to be the Saab bloodline in it. I also like how you incorporated that vent into the C Pillar.

Great work dude! The fiery background makes the ones at the top look totally awesome. I'm guessing you threw down some paint and then drew over it, correct? If so, what kinda paint did you use?

And, I now accept that I fail at car design. At least for now, haha.

EDIT: And, wow your reincarnation of the Saab Inca's are totally rad.

Thanks, guys. I'm not sure if I'll use the vent, but I'm airing on its side.

The paintings are gouache. The backgrounds are actually three different ochre-like colors. The cars are with black, white and flame red.

I should upload a pic of my Inca stuff. I've got a dinner plate sized marker drawing of that wheel design.

Did you do the cars with marker, like copics or something? Or just colored pencil?

Also, I've been seeing your work improve quite a bit, just thought I'd let you know. I wonder if I could be any good if I actually did stuff instead of just dreaming about it all the time, LOL. I'm lazy, so I have big goals and dreams, but never have the motivation to actually do stuff to fulfill them, haha.

All the ones on white paper are black prismacolor verithin pencil on 11x17 copy paper. Thanks, actually I have been noticing some marked improvement too! Its both encouraging and revolting to look back at my high school work lol

Just draw your ass off and YOU KAHN DO EET! :D

Well I'll post up some sketches sometime soon. Your sketches actually encouraged me to do some sketches just now, for the past hour or so. In marker and sharpie. haha.

Who cares about homework when you can draw cars? :P

By the way: Do you find working in a good black colored pencil much better than just a standard pencil? Just wondering, I basically use whatever is closest to me but I probably should think better about what I use for a medium.

Yeah man post up some stuff! You might also find the forum at www.cardesignnews.com helpful, if you haven't already. I'm Sven C. on there.

And yeah, I think medium matters. Verithins can get darker darks without smearing like 4B or 6B graphites would. Plus, verithins come in a plethora of colors!

And a tip: if you drop a colored pencil and it keeps breaking off, microwave it for 3 seconds and it'll fuse back together! But warning: don't do this any longer than 5 seconds, 3 with verithins, or else the pencil will either split or worse. I have experienced the former.

Sweet dude! Thanks for the tip!

My dad's an illustrator, but he's gone to the dark side of photoshop for most of his stuff, so I've got a lot of cool art supplies at hand. I don't know if they're verithins, I don't exactly know what those are, but he definitely has a lot of prismacolors. And pastels, and an airbrush station, and a shit ton of other cool stuff. I've just gotta learn to use them right, lol.

Sweet. does he have Copic markers? I'll bet he has either Prismas, Chartpaks or Copics. Look through his stuff- I'm still using my parents stuff from their architecture school adventures in the early 80s!

Oh and I must mention. Sketching is vastly more important than renderings. I'm post mostly flashy stuff like the Meyers Manx rendering up here cause it's more "impressive"

Ah neat stuff, I like the lower ones referencing the brand history.
And I'm sure you've heard that the brand might be consigned to history.

Brave Steve. Nice work, keep the makers running.
That photo on my page was scanned from the book "How a Car is Made".
Greetings.
