THE WORKTOP!

THE WORKTOP!

The walnut worktop finally arrived, and was installed last weekend. After oiling it and sanding it a bit, I've now been using it for a few days -- it's lovely! I am being a bit anal about drying water splashes, but I think I'm meant to, until the worktop develops ye olde patina, or something.

On the left, you can see my delightful Dualit toaster and kettle. On the right is my totally designer gas hob (though it was surprisingly cheap). Below it is my SMEG oven.

I have another photo of the room in its entirety, but it's SUCH a tip. I'm going to tidy it up tomorrow.

The next step is tiling the wall (white, rectangular tiles; 'Metro' smooth tiles) and then a couple of fancy wall units on the left (glass doors, shelves, etc.) I obviously need to put a footboard on the units, too.

Still waiting for a worktop

Still waiting for a worktop

My swivel chair arrived! It goes round and round and round...

Only 5 days until my worktop arrives now -- and only... 7 days until I have a working kitchen! And can cook food! Naked if I want!

Waiting for a worktop

Waiting for a worktop

The kitchen is on hold while I wait for the walnut worktop to arrive -- which won't be here until the end of the month! This is what the worktop will look like, but longer, and with more holes and grooves: www.worktop-express.co.uk/media/gbu0/deluxe_walnut1.jpg

On the left you can see a big pile of appliances -- my oven, hob, dishwasher, and microwave are there.

This is my hob: www.baumatic.com/ir/b72tcbl.html (v. excited about this one)

And this is my oven: www.smeguk.com/Catalogue/Product/SC436N-8.aspx (not quite as excited, but I still like the clean straight lines -- will go with my shaker kitchen).

The kitchen that Seb built

The kitchen that Seb built

Ta'da! It's all in place now (except two wall units, which are going on the left).

Dishwasher goes in the middle, and the oven next to it.

The rest of the tiles will come off. White tiles are going on.

Next steps: Painting the walls dark blue (you can see a small sample on the wall), installing appliances, then the worktop, then tiling.

Sofa-kitchen

Sofa-kitchen

This photo is mainly to show you the sofa. It won't actually be there when the room is complete, of course.

You can't really tell, due to the lack of natural light, but the sofa is a dark blue. It's made from 'natural' leather! Not processed + painted. It has blemishes and stuff (and it's dyed, rather than painted).
