...

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
    Full of sweet dreams...

    ~From Endymion
    by John Keats

We got a FOOT of snow yesterday (I'm going to try to get out and take some pictures this afternoon!), and as I shoveled the walk I uncovered a hydrangea blossom, brown and withered, yet definitely evading the state of nothingness.

Can't you just hire me as your butler to take care of such mundane tasks?

It is gorgeously poetic....I think it's in a thrall...

I saw pale kings and princes too,
      Pale warriors, death-pale were they all;
They cried—“La Belle Dame sans Merci
      Hath thee in thrall!”

~From La Belle Dame san Merci by John Keats!

What a colorful surprise for this time of year that is, come spring we wont want to look at anything brown. Careful shoveling all that snow Audrey! Lovely photo!

I did kinda the same thing except I discovered the missing snow shovel rather than a hydrangea blossom. Now, if I could just find the good ice scraper...

We've had snow on the ground for a couple of weeks and it's getting a little old. Don't get me wrong, I love winter in Oregon but I'm definitely ready for spring. Woke up to above freezing temps this morning... yeah baby!!

Beautiful Aud ..... a delicate skeletal blossom frozen in time.
( Preserved thanks to your careful shovelling !!! )

Wrap up warm and have fun in the snow .... I look forward to the pictures!

Ah, a gentle reminder that this winter too, shall pass and spring will once again assert itself against the bitter but yielding frost...those burnt golden veins are such a nice detail.

mesmerizing shot...glad to see there's some life left underneath this relentless pounding of the white stuff. Enough is enough, Mother Nature...we get it.

Even in the frozen snow, it's amazing how this poor blossom conveys such a sense of warmth.

Meant to comment on this earlier, but keep having to do work here at work (go figure).

A nice shot and treatment, the whole worn/torn parchment look.

We did not get a foot, but we did get a few inches. Got lucky and the worst of it went around the South Side. I still had to shovel all that heavy stuff, but what are you gonna do? It's winter!

Thanks to all for your comments and faves and invites and stuff!

Patrick, you always have an appropriate verse at your fingertips. Yes, I'll hire you as my butler (I think personal assistant is more PC these days, though) if you promise to quote poetry to me on the hour.

Linda - Shoveling burns off LOTS of calories! If I shovel I can eat Snickers. At least that's what I tell myself. C'mon, let's have some more snow!
And you're right - if you see brown in the spring it probably means you stepped in something you shouldn't have.

Leone: You are tooooo sweet, my darling.

Ziv: LOL. I hear ya. 33 degrees sounds warm right now.

Denis: What happened to the candy floss? Oh well, beggars shouldn't be choosers - I'll take the champagne, and thanks!

Adrian: Enigma? You make it sound so appealing.....

Jim: Dead things? You have such a knack for romantic verse.

Roger: And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullabo,
It helps to think we're sleeping right above the same big snow....somewhere, out there......hum hum hum hum hum hum....la da la dee da dah....somewhere out there, out where dreams come...slow

Did I miss a hum or a dee or a da? Something's just not right about the way I sang that.....and wait, what is a lullabo, anyway? Who writes this stuff?

John: Work? Where are your priorities?

Angi: you always have a way with words

Carol: I noticed, and you're doing a great job, too

beautiful discovery, love the treatment, great words to match, something quite poetic about it
