beyond_words-drawing
This is a 2 metre long drawing that I made in 2008 as part of a show "Beyond Words" In it the model is signing a piece of an ekphrastic poem about sign language by Cole Swensen from her book 'The book of a Hundred Hands'. Sarah is saying 'words emerge like birds'.
In this work I was exploring the power of language other than the spoken word and trying to capture the movement of her hands as she signed this accoustic poem. I was intensely interested in the cross over from one language to another.
