Feeding the ducks & birds

A favorite pastime for the kids, feeding left over bread to the ducks and seaguls at the river Roer. Judging by the size of the birds, we're not the only ones feeding them!

Food for thought

The library in the city center. It is located in an old building called "de Gouden Leeuw", the golden lion. It has been completely renovated on the inside and is nowadays an ultra-modern piece of architecture that won a number of prizes. And you can still rent books there too!

Vintage windows

View on the cathedral and buildings from the market square in Roermond. On top of the cathedral is a huge goldplated statue of St. Christopher (Sint Christoffel), the patron saint of Roermond.

Earthquake

Statue remembering the earthquake that hit Roermond on 13 April 1992 with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale. It is allegedly the heaviest earthquake registered in Nothern-Europe.

Young to old!

Statue of Hyacinthe, a character of the Opera-bouffe "Schinderhannes". One side of the statue shows an old lady with her walking cane, while the other side reveals a young woman.
