Canals in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, are
hedged by dams to retain water for the regeneration of peat fields.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited Palangkaraya, a community
assisted by the UN programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation
and Forest Degradation (REDD+), as part of his official travel to
Indonesia.
