This was the temperature by 9:15pm. By midnight it would still be 37 degrees, giving Victorians their warmest night since 1902.
On the positive side of things, Victoria's first day with a Catastrophic Fire Alert passed calmly, CFA crews being very quick on handling fires that sprang up.
This so far was the closest day to Black Saturday in temperature. It was the first real test of whether the state had learnt anything from February 2009.
The fact there were no deaths reported, or any major catastrophic fires endangering lives is a testament to those that did learn the lesson of Black Saturday
