Moustaches in Design

In support of Movember, the month-long moustache growing, fund-raising event for men’s health (www.movember.com) the Design Archives have brought together a fine selection of inspirational moustaches, some of them adhering to the upper lips of notable designers featured in our collections. The portraits span the decades between the 1940s and 1980s. In recognition of the global scope of Movember, we show here Canadian Wells Coates, American Cleveland Belle, Dane Vernor Panton, Italian Ettore Sottsass as well as “locally grown” Basil Spence and Eric Marshall, all of whom made distinguished contributions in the fields of product or architectural design as well as moustache cultivation.
