Strobist: Flash held slightly camera left and bounced backward to fill in the background. Triggered via CLS.

Oh, so fun! I think this is great! I think this is my favorite creative aperture shot I have seen yet.

I'm just waiting for my kit to arrive. Have you tried making your own designs at all?

Very cool mate.

nifty! I think I would have a blast with the appeture kit for about an hour or so. Although I can see how that could be fairly useful (although potentially clichet) for wedding photography. Very well written review.

Thanks! I haven't made my own yet, but that's sure to come.

Too much rap music for you. But I can see in certain situations this would be a fun toy to have around.

Love the striped colorful background. Makes the white candles stand out beautifully. 3:1 Group

I went down to the local Cropping store (yuk!) and picked up some shaped paper punches to create my own creative aperture kit. The most fun can be had around Christmaswww.flickr.com/photos/jahdakinebrah/342976488 /in/set-1528..., so I haven't really done a lot yet. Really cool how you split the field on this to produce the effect! All of my attempts have been completely out of focus and every light source is shaped.

I suppose you could have a lot of fun with people and make a skull and crossbones pattern. "dude, I just took this picture of you....maybe you shouldn't leave the house this week...." Ok, yeah, I'm a little demented. :)
Ryan Brenizer (63 months ago | reply)
jahdakine Yeah, I only found one other set on Flickr using this that had anything in focus at all, and that was with the 3G. I guess not enough people like to try precise focus-by-squeezing. ;-)
Haha, B.D., you know that's coming.

I do love the selective focus, but more than that I love the dreamy colors in the right side of the frame. Beautiful image.
