Orange eys

Species: Panthera Tigris - Tiger

Sex: Male

Born: 7.7.1999

Chompers is CARE’s “Gentle Giant”. He is one of the largest Big Cats at the sanctuary. His weight in the winter tops out at nearly 700 pounds. His gigantic teeth and dark black stripes are intimidating, but he has the spirit of a butterfly. Although his is reaching middle age for a Big Cat he continues to act like a cub. He hops around his enclosure with not a care in the world. He gets along well with others, animal and human. Although it is forbidden at CARE, it is easy to develop an overwhelming desire to walk in the enclosure and rub his belly or cuddle up with him and go to sleep.

Donya is a tiger with a lot of spunk. She has many masculine features. She is very large for a female, although she has an unmistakable feminine mystique. She loves men, which is an oddity in a mostly female run sanctuary. There is not a whole lot I can say about her for the exception that she will steal a mans heart away. All you have to do is visit CARE.

Fire, in her Jungle

Fire, in her Jungle

Species: Panthera Tigris - Tiger

Sex: Female

Born: 6.6.2005

Fire is a very special tiger. She was born from Donya and Rascal, two tigers that had been boarded at CARE. Now Donya, Rascal(now neutered), and Fire are permanent residents of CARE. Fire was a perfect little baby. She was growing well with no apparent abnormal development.

When she was 8 weeks old she was administered the normal vaccination for big cats of that age. Within hours she was totally unresponsive. She remained this way for 46 hours. She then began to wake form this apparent coma. There was bad news….Fire was blind. As we scrambled for answers an angel from California stepped forward. Gerard Van De Merghel helped in assuring Fire got the best of medical care and medications. Fire has a special animal ophthalmologist and neurologist along with her PCP Dr. Bill. She slowly began to see better and better. After a year of medication and lots of love Fire became somewhat normal.

She will remain to be one of the most spoiled rotten Tigers of CARE. Fire is a loving testament to what CARE’s loving donors and caregivers can do for big cats in need. It is a true miracle that the tiny, fuzzy, blind baby ever made it to adulthood. Please come and visit CARE and see our miracle in action.

Love

Love

Species: Panthera Tigris

Sex: Female

Born: 3.17.2003

Sydney is a wild spirit. She enjoys the company of her cage-mates, Rasa (tiger) and Layla (African Lion). The dynamics of this group is interesting. Sydney, a very dominant tiger has difficulty understanding Layla’s rules and regulations. Layla is very bossy. Sydney wants to rule the roost but wants to have fun doing it. Layla takes life very seriously. It is hard to determine, who is the alpha female in this group. Sydney is a large female and constantly gives Layla a run for her money.

On the human side, Sydney is loving and interactive. She loves to have a scratch on her back. She loves to be sprayed with the water hose to keep cool in the summer. In the winter she simply dumps her water bucket over and lays in muddy water. She is very entertaining. Sydney is not adopted and would make someone a happy parent. She is never boring….she is always on the move, looking for her next mischievous moment. Life is never boring with Sydney.

Descending the throne.

Descending the throne.

Species: Panthera Tigris - Tiger

Born: 12.10.1999

Selina is one of CARE’s most loving creatures. She was brought to CARE in 2000 at six months of age. She was to be temporarily be boarded here but was never picked up by her very famous owner. She saved the life of Sampson, CARE’s large male African Lion. When Selina was 10 months old, the 4 month old Sampson arrived. He was nearly dead upon arrival (see Sampson). After several weeks of life saving care, Sampson’s physical condition improved, although his emotional condition deteriorated. A decision was made to place Selina and Sampson together in the same enclosure. Selina took to Sampson like a mother to a cub. She nurtured him back to health. The unlikely couple, lion and tiger, lived together for many years…that is until their species differences became an issue. Sampson now lives with other African Lions, and Selina lives alone.
