Penarth

Over the years I have been researching local architects Hird and Brooks. Creators of some of the finest and most innovative post-war housing in the country, and certainly the leaders in such housing in Wales. They created several award-winning developments, including The Mount, Elm Grove and Merevale in Dinas Powis, The Drive in Cowbridge and many individual one-off homes of distinction.
This house is one of the last I had to discover and was one of the final developments by Graham Brooks in the 1970's.
A departure for Brooks in the seventies, a double-storey house revealing the influential Scandinavian spirit of so many of Graham Brooks designs. The white-painted brickwork, black stained timber beams, upper floor cladding, and the generous overhanging eaves encapsulate the strong Scandinavian principles that Brooks is identified with and typify his influential style.
