Bald Eagle with Shoveler duck

Holy cow, this was exciting, I was sitting in the car, eyes fixed on a female harrier, when I looked at hubby and over his shoulder out the other side of the car and saw this Bald Eagle coming toward us. I had to get out of the car, even though we are not supposed to, but I would have lost these shots if I hadn't. All I could think of was "OMG, he's going to be back lit... in haste did I turn up my exposure compensation otherwise all would have been lost, I wanted to expose by at least +2 and counted as I was cranking the dial.. Unfortunately it's a bit noisy, but my adrenaline was way high ;)

Phenomenal capture. The detail of its head, the slightly open beak. Just Beautiful. I hope you're having a great weekend. :~>

Red~Star, usually I don't take my husband with me either, but he's been jealous that I have seen the Bald Eagles out in the wild instead of a zoo. So he tagged along with my 7 year old son to boot, who loves to photograph as well. I gave him my D50 and the 70-300 VR ;)
I rather am by myself or with my daughter who also photographs just for fun.
Crowded... mmmhhhh, it was pretty busy, about 10 cars ahead of me which I usually frown at ;) but not too bad. I'll tell ya, it was BUTT cold, 42 degrees and the wind blowing into the car because both windows were open, needless to say I was freezing cold and I can't believe that the photos came out as good as they did, considering the circumstance. Everything happened so fast, but I am pretty happy with this :) There are a couple of other photos of the eagle, but this one was the best, will post the other 2 in a few days!
Thanks so much for the comments and invites everyone :)

Cool Shot Dee. I watched a young Bald trying to get a coot off the water today. Usually you just see a ripple when coots dive, but when an eagle is comming in for lunch, they make a big splash when "ducking". I couldn't get any shots as there were three cars infront of me, and it was on the wrong side of the car. Yesterday I saw a Bald spook a whole flock of geese off the ground, just by flying over. One of the staff told me he thinks they (the Eagle)like to do that just for fun. Then he told me about what he called "Slamming". It will spook a flock into the air and wait for a couple to bump into each and get the one that drops out of the sky. I'd like to get that on digital.
