The Rice Paper Butterfly or Paper Kite Butterfly (Idea leuconoe) is a very popular and spectacular member of butterfly
gardens around the world due to its impressive size and bright
distinctive colors.
The black and white butterfly with a wingspan of 95 to 115 cm across
is orginal from South-East Asia.
The name Rice Paper Butterfly comes from the translucent quality of
the wings.
This picture was taken in the butterfly garden of De Passiflorahoeve in Harskamp, the Netherlands.

De papiervlinder (Idea leuconoe) is een grote witte dagvlinder met zwarte tekening uit
de familie Nymphalidae. De mooie en opvallende papiervlinder met licht
transparante vleugels wordt veel in vlindertuinen gehouden.
De vlinder heeft een vleugelspanwijdte van 95-115 millimeter en komt
voor in Zuidoost-Azië.
In een onderzoek naar de levensduurverwachting van vlinders in
gevangenschap, was de gemiddelde levenslengte van deze papiervlinder
19 dagen, met als maximum 104 dagen.
