I am an Oil Sands worker and risked my job to take this picture. Myself, along with the majority of my co-workers are ready for a renewable energy revolution. We need to stand together to eliminate the corruption that exists in this industry, start taxing carbon emissions, and creating green jobs for a sustainable future. We do not work in this industry because we like supporting large oil companies; we simply have no other choice. We want jobs that provide long term economic, social and environmental sustainability for ourselves, our country and our planet.

Germany employs more people on the Green technologies than in its famous car industry. Canada could leap the USA on the green jobs front.

"I risked my job to take this picture."
"The majority of my co-workers are ready for a renewable energy revolution."
Right. I'm on your side, and I still think both of those statements are unlikely and hyperbolic.
As for "who am I to judge" comments, when somebody puts up an anonymous photo with nothing but such sweeping unsubstantiated claims to accompany it, our job as intelligent citizens is to question the truth and accuracy, even if we agree with the politics involved. Otherwise we're no better than anyone who has utter faith in the oil industry because he refuses to actually study the issue, and we can't expect anyone on that side to take our position seriously.

You work there because you have no choice? What a load of shit. You compromised for money, just like the corporations you are talking about.

@truth2nuts: And how do you contribute to a better world, may we ask?

Sounds like a left wing dreamer, the industry you work in provides income for the ENTIRE province. Without the energy sector our beautiful province would be no better off economically than places like Newfoundland and British Columbia.

At certain respondents who will know who they are:

-Before the recent vogue of oil and gas, humans have had different life-sustaining economies for eons, and it stands to reason that there can and will be a choice of economies after oil and gas, as well. How broadly beneficial an economy we build, depends on the preparations and efforts that we make now.

-We always have personal choices. Some are more palatable than others.

-Let's forget about "left" and "right" wings. We'll need both wings to fly; flapping one wing or the other will just take us in circles.

if no one worked there, it wouldn't happen... it means giving up the paycheck and finding another source of income... then we will find other sources of power. something / someone has got to give.
