The Oak Leaf's Icy Veins
Hi folks. I'm glad you like this photo, but please don't favorite it unless you have photos on flickr that I can see and enjoy also. I made that rule because some of my self-portraits back in the day seemed to attract *ahem* certain kinds of attention, but it applies to the other stuff too. If you make a 'favorite' of one of my photos, but don't share any yourself, I will block you.

That's a really nice pic!
I'm amazed you got frost. It's still cool but dripping up here.

Lovely! I had a pic just like this last fall that I lost somewhere in my docs! darn! I like how the edges look like pearl sugar.

Thank you Poecile,
we have had a couple of frost warnings already this year. You know, the kind where the weather people talk about it and you go out in the morning and it's cold and you wonder if it really got below freezing last night... I call this our first frost of the year, four days shy of a full month later than the first hard frost last year.
Thank you DeerLuvr!
It was sweet to my eye this morning!
Thank you Music Carver,
I'll bet it looks nice, from Florida at, what? 70 degrees?! LOL! (Actually, it has been a really sweet cold snap so far, sunny bright days and star-lit nights.)
Thank you i-loomin!
I was on my way into the garden with a load of maple leaves and this stopped me in my tracks!
Thank you cc49!
I have heard that the almanac is calling for a viscious cold winter, but my bones are feeling a sweet wet one coming on. Or, I can hope anyway!
Thank you Aegolius!
Ain't it just kind of like that? Us nature buffs, we know how it is to see a bird, a leaf, a mushroom that's just like the other one or just like the one last year, and still it is exciting. I like this one for having black oak and white oak leaves right next to each other.
Thank you Garden Chien!
Now, while they are still a novelty, those crystals are fun to see!
Thank you QT Flickr!
But, well, to be honest, I wasn't entirely sure there had been a frost until I walked on this leaf-strewn path in the shade...

It's actually been cold here the past week. Okay, relatively cold. Down around 40 by dawn. I might be able to take a shot like this soon at the rate we're going.

Very pretty photo, well it was 37 down here this morning, I could see Dashes breath when we went for a walk at 7:30.

This is so pretty! I'm not ready for the cold weather yet! It's still just rainy, windy and gray here!

LOL! Thank you Hearman!
This morning I chased the neighbor's wolf-dog home and then ran up the hill with him to the point where you can see over the trees into the canyons. There were three canyons full of mist and fog with three little ridges snaking along in the sunlight in the first mile of the view. Very pretty. No camera, and I remembered that I had left my tea water boiling and ran back.
Thank you ShesNuckinFuts!
This arrived so much later than last year that I almost began to convince myself that it just wasn't going to happen this year. ....
Thank you NE Nature!

Thank you Ex.Libris!
Ie everything food with you now? I was just thinking of you as I was cooking and considering changing the character of the current commestible experiement with the addition of an egg. I think I still belong to a group called something like "Fried Eggs" Or it could have been in Spanish. Anyway, if you ever do anything so simple as frying eggs, that might be a fun group for you.
Thank you G Brands!
Thank you Salvan!
Thank you Patti!
Thank you Time off!
I can't take credit for the leaf ot the freezing - just for catching the two together!
Thank you Profrmdover,
and no, there is nothing weird about it - especially as winter is the most common time to see gingerbread and Ex.Libris did mention sugar...

Amazing the micro climate changes in the short distance between us. We had a good couple frosts about a month ago I think it was - overnight all the squash leaves froze. But this time you got the frost and it never got anywhere near that cold here. But, Wow! What a lovely photograph!

Your stream was a pleasure to visit and I am interested in that new group...
Thank you Jennifer and David!
I am not sure that this photo is really as good as to merit all the replies it has gotten so much as that it is a signal to the changing seasons captured before the sight of such things becomes humdrum in everyone's experience!
It's true, WildlifeUplift!
And it takes a while to learn the habits of any microclimate. Scientists might have an educated guess, but it takes time to feel how the wind works in a particular spot...
