The right leg

The tree embroidery was originally on a skirt I used as a painting frock in my teens - a multi-tiered light cotton skirt that I would wipe the brushes on...

Ah, memories! All my clothes were Vintage[Portabello Road, Ken. Market, Camden Lock Market, jumble sales, mad layered recycling, other people's throw-outs] mixed with my own brand of customizing.....i.e. embroidery, paint etc.[& yes, I had a similar skirt that I would wipe my paint-brushes on,too!]
It got to be so my nice respectable middle-class parents couldn't stand the sight of me:'ooooooh, what do you think you look like? 7 What Will the Neighbours Say?' etc. etc.....forcing me to leave home! But it was 1969, & I was 16, a free spirit....
    Lovely jeans & patchwork!

heh heh heh. I would tell you how old I was in 1969, but that would spoil my secret.

But tell me, don't you still shop at the Goodwill or, when you buy fancy, that means it's hand crafted by someone good?

Around here, women who are more acquisitive about clothes than I am have 'clothing swaps' - everyone throws their not-so-fun-anymores into a pile and plays dress up until they find things they like.

When I was about 16, my friend came from Arizona, where she had dropped out of a boarding high school and lived in a cave and then a tipi and had a baby and... had made all her clothes, all her sweetie's clothes and all her baby's clothes, by hand.

It was an inspiration. I wanted to be like that, and stopped buying new clothes. But then I didn't start making magnificent home made clothes either. So I have ended up patching blue jeans and buying used. Underwear, shoes, socks and blue jeans are the only exceptions.

At the grand old age of 53, I am proud to say that I am still wearing mosly 2nd.-hand stuff...yes, except for underwear etc! I delight in rummaging for wierd & wonderful bargains in Charity shops.....thus 'killing two birds with one stone', helping the Charity, getting a bargain, finding rare & individual stuff that no=one else has, etc. Irarely buy new stuff, unless it's Ethnic, hand-crafted, Fair-Trade etc.
And, being a sad hoarder[& sentimental, & nostalgic!] I still have lots of my beloved 60s' & 70s' 'fab 'n' groovy'gear, & I'd gladly wear it all every day if the passage of years & 6 children hadn't so expanded my girth, alas! But my daughters of 24 & 19 often borrow it.......especially Maz, who's a hippy-goth. Amber was the best- dressed 'hippy' at her Art-school's 70's party....in my old clothes!
Anyway, I abhor the'Retail Therapy' thing, the whole Consumerism blight............buy buy buy whether you need it or not, waste & consume & squander resources, greed, money money money!
Want not, waste not, make-do- & mend, recycle, recycle !!

You are so on it! We live in the same world!
I am confused by my sister who will find a pair of sohes she likes and buy them in four colors!!
(I do like to do shoes new if possible, but she'll buy a dozen of the same bra all at once....)

Haha! I can't go as a hippy for halloween because it wouldn't be a costume!

    Oh man , huh !

They'll stone you when you're trying to be so good
They'll stone you just like they said they would
They'll stone you when you're trying to go home
They'll stone you when you're there all alone
But I would not feel so all alone
    Everybody must get stoned

They'll stone you when you're walking on the street
They'll stone you when you're trying to keep your seat
They'll stone you when your walking on the floor
They'll stone you when your walking to the door
But I would not feel so all alone
    Everybody must get stoned

They'll stone you when you're at the breakfast table
They'll stone you when you are young and able
They'll stone you when you're trying to make a buck
They'll stone you and then they'll say good luck
But I would not feel so all alone
    Everybody must get stoned

Well They'll stone you and say that it's the end
They'll stone you and then they'll come back again
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car
They'll stone you when you're playing you guitar
Yes But I would not feel so all alone
    Everybody must get stoned
    Alright

Well They'll stone you when you are all alone
They'll stone you when you are walking home
They'll stone you and then say they're all brave
They'll stone you when you're send down in your grave
But I would not feel so all alone
    Everybody must get stoned

    i want these sooo badly!!

  13. IngallsIdyllGirl (45 months ago | reply)

    Thank you Anna Mona!

    Thank you Rae,
so you could start patching your own.... This particular pair have no gratuitous patches - every patch covers a real hole - and they have no prefab embroidery on them (you know, those groovy machine-embroidered patches a person can buy...). There is one patch that was embroidered by someone else. They saw the pants at a Rainbow Gathering and were really attached to getting their patch on there...
It's never too late to start your own pair!
