    Yes, I'm 29 years old, a geek, and I just read Dune for the first time.

      The spice, worms and thumpers are all great elements to the story.

      Also, the original "Dune ][" Westwood studios game was the first (and still awesome) RTS.

      Don't read any other book with "Dune" in the title, this is the only one that is readable.

      ^ Agreed. I made it through the second book and part-way through the third before giving up. Way too much Muad'Dib and other names for me to keep interest.

      Definitely one of my favorites. I was surprised to find out that Herbert lived in Tacoma, about 60 miles south of Seattle.
