"The Cruel Thursday before Lent" 500 Years Ago...
On 27th February 1511, many riots and slaughters occurred in Friuli.
It was the Thursday before Lent. then called by chroniclers "La horribil zobia grassa".
In the image the east wing of the Castle of Spilimbergo in the inner courtyard with the so-called " Painted Palace" or also the Alvise's wing, because of its frescos on the facade, in Venetian gothic style. This part survived to the arson.
The 8th of March 2011 is Mardi Gras, the last day of Carnival.

"La Crudel Zobia Grassa" 500 years ago...
The 27th February 1511,Thursday before Lent,started a horrible massacre in our Land called Friuli.
A month after, the 26th March 1511, a terrible earthquake finished the job.
In the above picture you can see on the left the rest of the wall of the part of the Castle of Spilimbergo, in the inner courtyard, destroyed at that time and never rebuilt.
