The Catholic Mission amoung the Blackfeet was established here in 1865 and occupied in 1866 by the Jesuit fathers. The log church was built in 1878. Mother Amadeus of the Ursuline Order established a school for girls here, Oct 30 1884. The girls school closed in 1918, when the large stone building, erected in 1887 was destroyed by fire. The Jesuits withdrew from the mission in 1887, but the school for boys was continued until 1908. This site was the cradle of Christianity and a Cultural center in eastern Montana.
