Het Baken / The Beacon

Het Baken / The Beacon

This beacon was used by ships to navigate through the north sea. I was placed at the utmost eastern side of our island some ninety years ago. Now that the island has travelled eastwards due to western winds and currents the old beacon is situated in the middle of this nature reserve , with about a mile of "new" land east of it.

Low season on the island Ameland

Low season on the island Ameland

There are no guests during the wintertime on my Island. But as you see it can be a beautiful sight. Besides the seas are frozen and the harbour is shut. So my Island is physically isolated from the rest of the world. We have enough food to eat and wood to burn to last a few weeks though...
