Latter-day Saints - Growth of LDS Church Slowing ?

When you grow up in Utah it is common to hear that the mormon church is undergoing explosive growth, an idea that spawns a kind of local pride.
Althought the church is certainly growing- it does not appear to be growing as fast as most members would like to think.
I was raised mormon, and even forced by my parents to serve a mission for their faith.
I was assigned to South America where supposedly many of these new mormon converts are comming from.
Most of my time there was spent tracking down church members (on paper only) who probably attended church for only a short time and never came back.
Often I found that people were more intrested in what we had to say when I had a blond co-worker/ companion with me, or if they knew we were Americans.
Certainly this led me to question if all these 16 year old Latinas were interested in the church or being babtized by a blond American boy :)
Personally I would bet that since the infactuization with Americana has waned somewhat globally, missionaries are spending more of their time apologizing for Bush rather than harvesting souls.
Before I left the mission we missionaries were told by a prominant mormon leader that there are 2 ways to expand the mormon church 1) through missionay work, and 2) through reproduction(the more effective way according to him).
We were instructed that upon our return home, we were to promptly wed and begin "our new mission" as mormons.
Although many of my mormon peers still tradtionally get married young, they don't seem to be pumping out the 12-20 children that mormons of old were capable of.
This likely contributes to the slow down as well.
Personally I never returned to the church after participating in this mission.
There were too many conflicts within the doctorine for my mind to digest. Some members who read this may be tempted to label me as a "hater," but this was only my experience.
Mormonism will be a cool topic for you to teach, it is certainly a unique, wealthy, and politically influential church.

I live in Brazil , where the church used to grow a lot.I don´t think that only religion decreasing is the reason for this mormon slowdown , I realized that normally people are baptized by their feelings that the church is true .
Mormonism appeals a lot for this feeling called testimony of truth.
Years latter people start questioning mormonism , and they will find no answers and more than that , the church in fact do not care about all members , but only for those who remain active.

It is interesting to note the mindset of an LDS person (like the one who responded here) who will offer simplistic explanations like "the tactics of anti-mormons" and that "people leave the church because someone on the inside angered them."
It's as if devout members cannot conceive the possibility of thinking, rational people being able to decide after thorough study the DOCTRINE of the religion is fallacious.
In answer as to why LDS growth is slowing drastically, consider the almost immediate access to the internet for information these days.
After a simple Google search, one finds Joseph Smith married 32 women (some of them still wives of other members) and there were three different versions of "the first vision," all of them becoming more amazing than the last, it doesn't take too long to realize something is not quite right with the rest of LDS doctrine.
It is also interesting to note the highest rate of LDS baptisms these days are those in third world countries who are mostly uneducated and poor---very little opportunity to verify information in books and on the internet.
Check the so-called growth areas out. The countries with the highest conversion rates today are in Africa and the Latin American countries. Membership growth in the US is due mostly to the high birth rates of LDS members.
A fountain of information can be found on the blogs and articles on the Postmormon.org site. If you post your question there, you will receive a truckload of information and insights into the steady decline of the LDS Church.

LDS members are leaving the church in droves (research on this available on net; however, the church will not tell the truth). Why are so many members leaving?
The internet provides answers and exposes sanitized church history.
Also, the members are either fed up with the required "blind obedience" and lack of "spirit" of the leaders or waking up to the prophesies contained in the LDS scriptures.
These scriptures; the Book of Mormon (BoM) and the Doctrine and Covenant (D&C) foretell of an apostacy after the restoration of Joseph Smith (2 Nephi 3, etc.).
This apostacy requires a clean-up of the leaders e.g. moneychangers. This is also foretold.
The following provides scriptural references and examples of the inherent problems within quotation marks of this corporate non-spiritual "Babylon" religion (Isaiah 12, 13).
This posting provides many of the answers that you seek, although it is directed to members of the church.
For myself, I do not throw the baby out with the dirty bathwater as I know the truth of the original Book of Mormon (altered in 1837 with over 3,000 changes at the 2nd printing).
The Ohio mound people or the Hopewell Civilization have artifacts carbon-dated and housed in Museums including the Smithsonian that correspond with the Book of Mormon timeline.
The church has been looking in Meso America, but are too embarassed to revamp their views (F.A.R.M.S.) on the location of ancient Americans; the "other sheep" Jesus Christ taught (John 10:16).
Monson is a false prophet along with the rest of the "learned men" in a "King" position since Joseph Smith. Hinckley, for example, infamously stated "all is well in Zion" in a 1996 General Conference even though the Book of Mormon warned us about false leaders who would say this (2 Nephi 28).
Did Hinckley not ever read the Book of Mormon? D&C 64:38-40 warns of the "false prophets, apostles, and even bishops" that need to be replaced "by the inhabitants of Zion" (members can vote at General Conference)!
D&C 112:24-26 talks about the cleansing of the Lord's House "First among those among you saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house" beginning with a "Whirlwind" which occurred downtown SLC in 1999 (see news articles) and wrought destruction on the new Assembly Hall ("great and spacious building"/Lehi&Nephi's visions) and the Visitor's Center.
The destruction of these church buildings in 1999 were not even mentioned in a recent news article commemorating this Tornado that hit downtown Salt Lake City. The media is controlled (Deseret News) or softened (Salt Lake Tribune) in Utah so members are finally finding out the truth via the web.
D&C 124:47-48 states that the church is condemned "by your follies, and by all your abominations which you practise before me, saith the Lord.
" This was reiterated by a repenting President Ezra Taft Benson who declared "we are a condemned church because we don't read (or understand) the Book of Mormon" in his famous "Pride talk" in April 1989 General Conference.
Joseph Smith was warned against doing his "own will and CARNAL DESIRES or he WOULD FALL" in D&C 3:1-11. However, just weeks prior to his MASONIC assasination, he did repent:
Award-winning D. Michael Quinn’s LDS historical research into the early years of the church found that Joseph Smith repented of polygamy weeks prior to his assassination by burning the original polygamy manuscript with his first wife Emma and telling the Quorum to burn their Masonic temple garments and to stop practicing polygamy; an abomination unto the Lord.
June 10, 1844: “Hyrum (Joseph’s brother) tells Nauvoo City Council
that the 1843 revelation pertains to ancient polygamy, not to modern
times…” (NEVER of God! Not even for sinners David and Solomon OR
Abraham who lied to the Prince and was given Hagar; mother of today's
Muslims who also believe in polygamy)
June 20, 1844: “Smith writes the apostles to return to Nauvoo immediately and probably on this occasion, instructs them to destroy their endowment undergarments.”
June 23, 1844: “…Joseph and Emma Smith burn the original manuscript of the 1843 polygamy revelation…” (Quinn, pg 645 ¶ 6, ¶ 12, pg 646 ¶ 1).
D&C 132 used to justify this whoredom became "scripture" in 1857 for political and lustful reasons. Read Ann Eliza Young's 1876 "19th Wife" true witness of the horrors of polygamy and masonry (Danite Warrior's secret killings much like the Meadow Mountain Massacre).
This is a free ebook on Googlebook.com She states how happy the people (filled with the Spirit of God) were in the church prior to the infiltration of polygamy and masonry.
Ann was one of ten women who divorced themselves from Brigham Young (a tyrant who went to court rather than pay his ex-wives anything).
Joseph was commanded by God to become an apostle (D&C 20, 21).
He was NEVER told by God to become a prophet or King/President (ego prevailed). Jesus Christ designated a pattern of apostles to lead his church until his return.
The Book of Mormon warns us of having a "King" position over us with a type & shadow of wicked "King Noah" who was the leader/President of the Church just as his father was.
His "12 high priests" told the people what to believe (interpreted their dreams) rather than have a personal relationship with God.
Jesus warned us repeatedly that "His prophets" would lead "His people astray
." These warnings gives us about four pages of scriptures; do the research!
Therefore, it is common sense that "A prophet will never lead you astry" and "when the prophet has spoken the thinking has been done" are false dogma and propaganda! Joseph Smith warned against blind obedience; "it is foolish and slavery in the extreme..." Millennial Star Issue 14.
The Book of Mormon or "Book of the Lamb" (1 Nephi 13) was altered by the "learned men" in 1837 with the 2nd printing with over 3,000 changes altering the identity of God contrary to Alma 11:23-40, Ether 3:14, and Mosiah 15:1-5. Jesus Christ IS the Eternal Father!!!
This is the "plain and precious truth" infamously and prophetically taken out after the Masonic infiltration.
The satanic blood oath requirement of loyalty and secrecy to not tell and to consecrate everything to the church (rather than to God) or "suffer your life to be taken" is contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ
. Prior to 1990, members pantomined slitting their throats, cutting out their hearts, and disembowling their intestines as part of the LDS temple Masonic riturals.
The temple ceremony was changed in 1990 as people were waking up; however, it is still "assumed" today.
Jesus Christ taught us to "only say yea, yea or nay, nay as anything more than this comes of evil" also Moses 5:29 states that the Masonic oath as required in the LDS temples comes from Satan in the conversation with Cain to kill Abel and keep it all secret.
Hinckley declared "all is well in Zion" in General Conference 1996. What does even the altered Book of Mormon warn us prophetically? “they will say:
All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth…and thus the devil…leadeth them away carefully down to hell” (Book, 2 Nephi 28).
Two Billion dollar shopping mall? Inspired? by a prophet or by a money changer??? Son-in-law to Hinckley, Alan Barnes, conveniently dies before going to trial for the Salt Lake Olympic Scandal after he admitted to FBI agents that he signed bribery checks (SL Tribune "Silent Witness" newspaper article).
Illegal political contribution to fight Proposition Eight; how will this affect their tax exemption?
Theft of wealthy member's assets many times through Zion's Bank due to temple consecration of "all time, talent, and all that you do possess for the building up of the Kingdom of God." Zion's Bank highly publicized (bill boards, etc.) merger with First Security failed due to an SEC audit?...
Many other behind-the-scene events hidden behind a "carefully" crafted public relations campaign...
The blindly-obedient sheep of Utah are waking up; an apostacy after the restoration is prophesied in 2 Nephi 3:24 AFTER Joseph Smith who fell but did repent belatedly.
The church however, continued on the path of "abomination and folly" as prophesied. Now it is time for the cleansing of the Lord's House: www.bridgingtruth.com (confirmation that Jesus is God the Eternal Father by the Torah, Bible, and original Book of Mormon).
When we incarnate on this earth our Spirit stays in Heaven. It is that simple; we have a soul (for those connected with Heaven), an "I AM", and our innate intelligence. Our Spirit is our Guardian Angel.
Therefore, when Christ came to this earth, His Spirit was God, the Eternal Father in Heaven; hence: "I and my Father are ONE." The first version of the "First Vision" (see Mormon history) is the only correct version; Joseph Smith saw "the Lord" in his experience with God; not two personages ~ an embellishment by the learned men/Masons...
This is another reason why the church is looked upon as a cult by
Christians who believe in one God.
