Taken during the only day with snow this winter in Paris. So few, but it's better than nothing. But still nothing compared to what we had the last years...

There is one thing annoying with architecture in Paris, it's that it doesn't change anymore... This is something striking when I compare Paris with NYC. The Louvre Pyramid was almost the last architecture "breakthrough" that happened in Paris, it was more than 20 years ago! Just think about what has been created in this period in NYC, or even in other European cities as London... Some might say this is the charm of Paris, this is a classic city, but I think this city should move forward a little bit, speaking of architecture. The problem is that when a project is made, dozens of associations are instantly created in order to dismiss it, and eventually it isn't built. This is the kind of thing that always happens in France... In the past few years Jean Nouvel made several very ambitious designs for skyscrapers in La Défense or elsewhere near Paris, they were all dissmissed. What a shame...

In Paris and in all western Europe, we're currently experiencing the biggest cold wave in years... Here in Paris, the temperature hasn't exceeded 0°C for a whole week, and apparently it will be the same until at least the end of the week... I have to say it isn't that unbearable... I'd even say I like it... In the matter of photography I've always thought that extreme weather conditions are a good opportunity to change our look on the city... These days, when you go out, the streets look the same, but something is different. I've digged a lot this with the rain, but eventually, I'd say all the uncommon weather conditions make me a better photographer, or maybe these uncommon weather conditions make everyone slightly different, and so a whole new range of opportunities appears for a street photographer... In any case, I've noticed that almost all of my best shots were taken in uncommon weather conditions.

One of my pictures will soon be on the cover of a novel! Back in September 2011, Karen Lillis, a writer from Pittsburgh, former New Yorker, contacted me in order to put my picture "Underground Love" www.flickr.com/photos/camillelacroix/5451500174/in/set-72... on the cover of her new novel.
The book will soon be available. You can fin all the information at www.spuytenduyvil.net/fiction/watchdoorstheyclose.html
