Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice

These trees look so sad and beautiful, I've never seen anything like it. They are completely cased in ice. Behind them you can see the rubble from the large portion of the building that the fire destroyed, and in comments is a close up of what remains of the building.

Remains [3/52]

Remains [3/52]

An apartment building a block away from my house burned down this weekend. I'm currently dog-sitting across the city but today when I went home we went for a walk to check out the scene. It is so sad to see something like that. 80 apartment units gone, 92 people without a home. The temperature was -30 C the night of the fire and all the trees, cars and everything else around the building are coated in ice from the firemen's hoses. I peaked my camera through the fence to get this shot. A sign in perfect condition, referring to parking spaces now covered in rubble.

And at once I knew, I was not magnificent. [2/52]

And at once I knew, I was not magnificent. [2/52]

I had grand plans for a photo from the top of the ski hill in Jasper that I went to on Friday. But alas, as a relatively new snowboarder I didn't feel comfortable carrying my camera on my back.

I adore the mountains, there is nothing better. The title of this photo is from my favorite song right now. Holocene by Bon Iver. It is gorgeous. It totally sums up how I feel whenever I pause for a moment to take in something natural and beautiful.

Although standing on top of a mountain is probably when I feel that way most, driving through the mountains is certainly inspiring as well. (+1 in comments)

Tails of a Petsitter--Abby

Tails of a Petsitter--Abby

It's been a while since I've uploaded anything to this Set, but I have been dog/cat sitting a ton this year. It's really turned into a bit of a business and I can't wait until I own a personal car again and no longer have to turn people down due to distance.

This is Abby, she lives 2 doors down from me and loves to bark at Buddy (and vice versa.) I had the pleasure of looking after her, her kitty brother and cousin Sydney for 10 days. Abby is such a sweet, low key girl who totally stole my heart last week. (+1 in comments, photo of Einstein and Sydney to follow)

...here's Einstein! Definitely a kitty that likes to keep to himself, but that doesn't mean I didn't have my own personal lap/bed warmer once in a while. He's a pretty chill guy.
