Lots of weird stuff going on here. But I liked the surfer.

Lipstick or...

Lipstick or...

Someone asked why the great egrets congregate in the northern fields of SLO County. What might they be eating someone asked. Well I was shooting zebra and this razor billed bird was enjoying my least favorite critter. Mole, vole, mouse, rat, you say. Still rated R for violence.

Black and white

Black and white

I received word that Hearst zebras were near Highway 1. So I got in the car and joined the masses with their iphones and other cameras. They probably got the better images. But I liked this youngster without even a catchlight. Took her through silver efex pro. Would never consider otherwise, even without a catchlight. No crop except..no crop. Very unusual to be so close.

Yosemite from tunnel view (explored thank you)

Yosemite from tunnel view (explored thank you)

The first day in the Park the clouds obscured El Capitan. Photogs standing about complained about clouds camera left. Hey clouds can only add drama to this view. I am not complaining.

Horse tail falls (fire falls)

Horse tail falls (fire falls)

This slim ribbon of water falling over the eastern flank of El Capitan turns red at sunset in the last two weeks of February if conditions are perfect. This day the rock was a swirl with fog/clouds. I didn't want to waste a night waiting for no clouds, no fog and a perfect sunset. But I did anyway with many others standing side by side muttering about where the fog would move and cloud would move and if there was enough water. Then all got quiet and I heard the click, click. It wasn't perfect because of not much water. But it was cool--being in community and in the presence of a firey water and the ghost of Galen Rowell, a photographer who discovered the phenom.
