This is a brand spanking newly emerged red Damsel from my pond. I watched it crawl up onto the plants, break out, dry out and fly off. It's like magic. I have tons of shots with all the action. I shall put together a set later. Damselflies spend 2 years as aquatic Nymphs feeding on insects, before they transform into Damselflies. They then have a few weeks to mate before they die. Damsels are harmless and great pest control, and super food for many birds. Their colors are fantastic, their flight is graceful. Making them my number 2 most favorite insect, second only to the larger cousins, the Dragonfly.
