Dunnock

Dunnock

As it's been such a lovely day, with lovely bird song, I thought I would bring you a Dunnock. These have been singing their little hearts out. A true Spring bird.

I am getting the hang of my new/old camera. :P (hence my new user name) lol. I now have a Canon 40D. It's an oldie, but a cracking camera. I can't wait to try it on Dragons and Damsels. Not long now. :)

The Odd One Out..

The Odd One Out..

Hooded Merganser displaying to the Tufted Ducks.

This poor chap knows it's Spring, only he hasn't got a mate. This is because he's not a native bird. I understand this bird has been around for a few years though, so it appears he gets over it.

It is funny watching him though. What a fabulous and unusual looking bird :)

The Colourful Starling (Set of 6)

The Colourful Starling (Set of 6)

Sturnus vulgaris. Vulgaris? Really? lol.

Family Sturnidae.

Rather distracting and hypnotic too! I couldn't pick a favourite from these shots. I loved them all.

I haven't seen many Starlings this year, and have never got a decent photo of one, so it was extra special seeing them so close today. I wasn't expecting it. They distracted me for ages just watching them. I really could have watched them all day. Sadly, I couldn't!

The were really vocal, and there were signs of courtship going on. These, along with House sparrows, were ripping off bits of Lobster baskets. Some of the Starlings were wandering around picking random things up off the ground. It was funny seeing the Starlings flirting in the Lobster baskets too. lol.

I wondered if they are closely linked to crows, as they appear quite intelligent?

Little Egret. Just Doing What A Little Egret Does. 9 of.

Little Egret. Just Doing What A Little Egret Does. 9 of.

I have been waiting a long time to watch one of these properly. I just adore these birds. They are fascinating to watch.

They seem to be very sensitive when they are feeding. They seem to be able to sense food from a meter or two away, and their food source is tiny!

They use their big feet and kind of shake/vibrate the mud. I think it might be that they stir up the mud below to disorientate the small fish?

Anyway, they are great to watch given the opportunity. Again, these are fairly common, but actually being able to observe them up close, isn't really!

Leaping Lambs for Leap Year (9 of)

Leaping Lambs for Leap Year (9 of)

How adorable it was to watch Lambs playing. I never realised how agile and up to mischief they are. Such a joy to watch. :) They are so affectionate and sociable with each other.

Their mothers must have the patience of a saint lol.
