This photo was the chosen one for the promotional shots of Texas Renegade. To make it smaller, I did some enhancements in Photoshop using basic tools. You can do this too:
1) Using Magic Extractor, I extracted each person in the photo to where each band member had their own layer.
2) After touching up the extraction, I made a new layer background out of some clouds, and moved each layer into place.
3) Then I used the blur tool to go around the jagged edges around the guys.
4) I then color and contrast balanced the clouds to match the color and contrast of the people.
5) Since the background was the "in focus" area of the original photo, I used the blur tool to blur the background and bring the attention to the front.
6) As a final step, I used the sharpening tool to sharpen areas like the sunglasses, and eyes of the individuals to bring more focus to the members of the band and not the background.
If you inspect closer, you may see the work that I did, I included the large copy so you can see this.. However, when scaled down and put on a web page or small print, the photo should look normal with no signs of tinkering.
All this was done in Photoshop elements and took about 20 minutes. Photoshop Elements is a very powerful program to use if you cant afford the new CS5. There are many ways to accomplish this with alot better realism, speed, and end results, but for those of you new to photography or editing, this gives you the basic Idea so you can go out and practice your photo shop skills.
Enjoy!
