Unibody MacBook & MacBook Pro: Mini DisplayPort

    While the DisplayPort is an open standard, royalty-free, that can transmit everything from surround sound to dual DVI or HDMI, Apple created this Mini DisplayPort that apparently gives only video. Let's hope it will be open as well.

      That would be the Mac then. The mini DP as such can have no such limitation, since audio is just another kind of packet in the data stream protocol.

      No certainty yet, we have to wait for the Developer Notes to be released to know for sure. I'm kind of wondering though, why the speakers on the new 24" Cinema Display don't work if you don't plug the USB cable to the computer...

      Some very good information here on MacWorld where we learn that the Mini DisplayPort is part of the open spec, and that other manufacturers (HP, Dell, etc.) have actually started to use it a couple of months ago.
