They thought they were both Jay-Z - Glastonbury 2008 - Sat Night / Sun Morning
They insisted I took their photo and claimed (both of them) that they were Jay-Z.
The night Maggie broke her ankle.
We went down to the beer tent by the Acoustic stage so Maggie could fill up her 'platypus' for the evening. It was the first drink she'd had at the festival. We then wandered around the outdoor circus area watching trapeze artists and other acts before taking a stroll through the markets on the way up to the Greenfields. Just browsing and chatting and walking.
All of a sudden, Maggie was on the floor - she'd twisted her ankle on a very uneven bit of ground and couldn't put any weight on it. Luckily we were close to a property lockup and I managed to help her get to the chair they had outside. They put a call out on the radio but we were told she'd have to get to the nearby medical centre in the Greenfields. Not far at all, but miles if you can't walk!
Two of the lads from the lockup helped her along but it was a slow process and very painful for her.
The doctor was quite sure she'd broken her ankle and we waited for the ambulance to take her to Ivy Mead on-site hospital on the other side of the site. I couldn't go with her so I walked back to the tents with my daughter who needed to go to sleep (it was past 3am by now), grabbed some water and Mars Bars and legged it up to the hospital tent. Made it five minutes after she'd got there because it had taken a while for the ambulance to get through the crowds and it then had to drive offsite and come back in.
She had an x-ray (first tie they've had a machine on site) and the fracture was confirmed. She even got a CD of her x-ray!
Unfortunately only one of the nurses was able to do plastering so we had to wait until around 6am before we could head back to the tents.
It was hard going because the crutches Maggie had been given were uneven and her 'good leg' was also the side of her bad hip and every hop was hurting. I managed to flag down a jeep who took us to the top of our field (but no further - it was a one-way road!). Took about half an hour for her to hobble down to the tents but we eventually made it by about 7am.
I meant to go straight to bed but once people started getting up and wanting to hear the story, it was about 9.30am before I got into my tent. I did get a cup of tea, bowl of cornflakes and a cooked breakfast though!
