Butterfly (probably great spangled fritillary) on butterflyweed 3

This seems to be a great spangled fritillary (Speyeria cybele). I thank mudder_bbc (see comment below) for the identification.

 

From my wife's flower garden. This orange butterfly was a little the worse for wear. Note the piece of wing missing. Perhaps a bird almost got it. It was collecting nectar on our Asclepias tuberosa flowers.

 

There's also an ant in the photo.
