Apple Pie and Vanilla Ice Cream
I normally only make apple pie in the fall, but the fourth of July seemed like an appropriate time for this "All-American" dessert. I chose three organic (fuji, golden delicious, pink lady) and three conventional (braeburn, granny smith, royal gala) apple varieties for this pie. I served the pie with homemade double vanilla ice cream
The filing is made with apples, brown sugar, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, butter, salt, and cornstarch. The crust is made with bleached flour, baking powder, salt, butter, cream cheese, cream, and vinegar.
The ice cream is made with Madagascar vanilla beans, vanilla extract, cream, milk, sugar, egg yolks, salt, and vodka.

Impressive! My favorite apple pie I ever made had a quite combination of apples, so for sure I'd like this one! Looks delicious. The ice cream, too, but I'm all there for the pie!:)

Thanks portobelleza, I agree with you--I like a blend the best. It seems to create the perfect sweet/tart balance.
