HI Paul, didn't recognise this as one of yours, its a different style from your normal stuff. It's quite a hard hitting portrait, and the processing is darker than I'm used to seeing from you - in some ways it reminds me of LJ's work. Very powerful.

Stuart, thanks but who is LJ?

    5. Ivan Velinov 8 months ago | reply

Lee Jeffries. I never understood the obsession with his overly processed photos of homeless people. They usually look like freaks and all look the same.

I see nothing in this shot which reminds me of him. Perhaps a bit of Unsuono but not LJ.

      Anyway here is an example:

      Hi, here's a link www.flickr.com/photos/16536699@N07/

LJ is, in my opinion, a superb portrait photographer. But in a much darker style. Yes he shoots homeless people , although not exclusively. In his portraits the eyes are the windows to the soul. Cliché description by me, but never truer.

I think your shot's powerful for the same reasons. The depth in the eyes is compelling.

The comparison was meant as a compliment. I'm not suggesting your subjects are freaks. There's clearly no similarity between your shot and the one has elected to post on your stream. Dig a little deeper and your find far better examples.

I am sorry, I got lazy. That was simply the newest shot at the time. There are some similarities with this one, indeed (although all of LJ's photos are black and white, I should note):

Still, for me personally, overly processed photos never lead me into someone's soul.
