I dislike the idea of me doing things that are derivative of other people's work. I once had a boss that told me "you must emulate those you wish to supersede." He laughed when he asked me why I grew a mustache and I used that line on him. I have no desire to supersede anyone but for a while I have been increasingly drawn to these type of images. I admire Susan Burnstine's work very much. I used to use a cigarette wrapper that I cut a hole in and then crumbled up and used as a dodging tool when enlarging images in the darkroom. I just got a Lensbaby to create digital versions of my old images. So maybe I'm just emulating myself.
Lensbaby Composer
Single Glass Option
Wide Angle/Macro Converter. (Much better on a crop sensor camera)

Last night I had the opportunity to talk to Larry Blackwood. He was having a gallery opening at North Central College. On display was a beautiful collection of his Opus Corvus series. He has been featured in LensWork three times. It was great to talk to someone with his talent.
This seems oversharpened but looks better on white. Better still on my 500px hardly ever even has anything on it page.

I've been wanting to photograph this building for a while. Waiting for the right conditions on a day when the place was empty. Today was the day but a security guard appeared and told me "This is private property and you'll have to leave."

So what's been in your wallet? My favorite photographers use all sorts of gear. Brian uses an A850 and a Fuji X100, Jeff uses a D700,Yvette uses a 5D Mark II, Joel uses a 7D, Nathan uses an A700 and Steve's been using a Hasselblad. All have achieved what one fellow called "tsukaikonasu". They have all mastered their tools to capture what their mind sees when they press the shutter. Few are truly able to accomplish this. We all do try though. So while the equipment varies, the common denominator seems to be that they all go out and see. I've treated myself to a Fuji X100, pimped it out and have been working on mastering its use. Now I'll have to go out and see what I can see.
