Painting

Karl Avellar's painting-in-progress of the Clark farm at the intersection of Rt. 108 and Centennial Lane in Howard County, MD, (USA) blends into the landscape as he works on the piece for his class at Howard Community College. He said his current dilemna involves learning how to render the delicate strands of barbed wire on the fence realistically in oil paint.

Nice idea to make it line up with the background.

Very nicely balanced. I loike how the skies in the image and the painting lead right into each other.

Gorgeous. Whenever I see someone painting a landscape, I always want a shot like this but can never seem to get it - flawless execution.

Great shot but, how was this done? Do tell.

Just a matter of being able to choose the exact point in three-dimensional space around the photo that will line the stuff up. It is not just a matter of right-left-up-down. You have to be able to move in or out, and then match the perspective from the right point of depth.

That is why it is almost impossible to get lucky on a photo like this unless you are using a wideangle zoom. I used a Nikkor 17-35 on this one.

You mean to tell me that the painting is real and not the digital manipulation of the photo to make it look like it is a painting?!? That painting matches the background too well to be real. There HAS to be some digital trickery afoot. If it was indeed all captured in the camera, I am very impressed.

a really effective capture which could have been a cliche, but isn't.

@Sandarino- THis is a straight shot. No "fixing."

@ Tristan- No planning. Just serendipity and very careful angle of shooting.

At first sight, i thought it was PS trickery, and was pleasantly surprised!

The painting does blend in very well to the backdrop. It almost looks like it could be a mirror.

Awesome shot! I am impressed at the fact that it was a straight shot. Color and contrast are just right.

Hey, I love going to Centennial Lake to shoot birds. Msg me if you're ever interested in an evening walk/shoot near the lake.

Nice framing! I'm assuming that it's shot with available light only?

He must have been painting that picture for a while; the shadows that he's painting seems to suggest a lower angle for the sun (longer shadows) :-)

he must have lit that with some sort of strobe :-)

Terrific. Nicely conceived. I also like the guys name. It's almost like it's bullet proof.
