Yah, we’re in the street! What’cha gonna do?

This was an interesting four-piece parade shootin’ down 6th street in the middle of the Portland skyline: a guy on a skateboard leading another dude riding a wheelie with two other cyclists giving yours truly the stink-eye. Ah, youth! How I miss being a punk-ass bitch. =)

At least most of them were wearing safety helmets.

What Is That Thing?

What Is That Thing?

There are now two pictures of Red-Tailed Hawks in my photo stream and both have one thing in common: they were taken while sitting in my Jeep. Why shoot from a car? Because apparently birds of prey have no idea what an automobile is. What does this mean? As long as I stay inside the vehicle I can move as close as any terrain will allow while drawing no more than a curious stare. I experienced this while photographing a Great Gray Owl a while back: I drove up, rolled down the window, pointed my camera, and clicked away as my wide-eyed friend looked on with a glare that just screamed WTF.

North Falls

North Falls

This is the North Falls at Silver Falls State Park. It’s probably the most photographed state park in Oregon. Some of you know I like to stay away from overly photographed comps but I find myself always returning here and hiking the loop. The hike is “moderate” but good exercise and you can’t beat viewing ten water falls. For some reason these particular water falls even sound different than all of the others I have photographed. Psychological? Maybe.

On this occasion part of the canyon trail was closed due to Mother Nature laying a serious can of whoop-ass on the park. So, I had to shoot from the road about 1/3 of a mile away. Bring on the long lens. =)
