A Tree In A River

A Tree In A River

I sat by a tree in the river
I was walking the bank and came upon it
Here was a tree singing a sonnet
The sound in my ears I cannot remember
This stunning vision will last forever

It told of its life - how proud it had been
To stand tall, or even at all - right there
I listened to its tale with great interest
Learning what I could from its wisdom
Feeling loss for what it had been

Then a feeling of hope came upon me
Here was what remained of a life
The tree had done well against the odds
Its roots had been strong in life
Now in death its spirit lives on

Snow Covered House

Snow Covered House

Deep beneath the drifts
A humble house hides
Nothing can get in
And nothing can get out
No one to hear you shout

It is a calm, peaceful, scenic view
Not knowing anything about you
You could be trapped inside
Thinking this is a good place to hide
Missing the beauty that lies just outside

There is no smoke from the chimney
No one stokes the fire
In the distance are the mountains high
Looking down on this lonely scene
We are caught in between

Rogue Erosion

Rogue Erosion

Over time with water and dirt

We see the weight of gravity at work

Falling down along the edges

Flowing through cracks and over ledges

The scars of time emerge

Covered by the shifting land and air

Forces gather as they prepare

A trickle becomes a torrent

A torrent becomes a tool

The tool is used to forge forever

In the shadows and on the ridges

Some light is trapped and some emitted

We see an image of ancient art

Telling of times lost in thought

So we stand there -- alone

Log in the River

Log in the River

There is a log in the river
One end dry, the other one wet
Something is keeping it still
Below the surface, there is an anchor
Hidden from view it must be true

How can the current not affect it?
Swirling at its base, laughing in its face
It is as though it is firmly planted
Think about how it arrived
Tumbling, tumbling, tumbling

In a moment of time
All we see is still
Looking deeper we realize
The path to and from
Is just as much what was as what will
